About the World Wide Wub:

The World Wide Wub was started in 1994 as a small Z39.50 compliant server running inhouse on a debian linux 286 AT. Since then, it has expanded to include many web service resources. Roughly taking the DMOZ open directory category structure, with alterations for required non-compliance factors, including such aspects as LOC and Dewey namespace transformations, it has recently allowed an aspect of its resources to be made publicly available via the World Wide Wub. While the addition of resource URI's are allowed by the public, these resources do not feed back into the actual backend, but exist only for public use on a dedicated, seperate, http:// accessable database. The end-type categories will also be released in the last quarter of 2002 in a variety of feeds, as shown in the table below:

Although the World Wide Wub is partially supported by revenue from a few advertising sponsorships, on whom more information is available via the tiny add bar at the bottom of every screen, we do our best to remove any kind of dependence on an advertising economy. Please feel free to visit them; for the most part they are of cultural, non-commerial interests, and are advertising-free. It is part of our policy to remove any dependence on what we perceive of as an extravagent waste of human resources, eaten up with wasting resources to produce skyscraper-size bandwidth hogging junk. If you have a culturally important site and would like to participate, send an email to anti-ads@worldwidewub.org. We beleive there is a difference, if not an actual static definition, between advertising and communication, and that one contains meaningless noise masquerading as meaning, and the other contains meaning masquerading as useless noise masquerading as meaning. We'll leave it for you to decide which is which for yourselves.
